Emmy Winners List is Out: Daily Show Dominates

Emmy Winners List is Out - Daily Show Dominates

It was inevitable. With eight straight wins and eleven straight nominations, you didn’t need Nostradamus to predict who was going to win the Emmy for “Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series” at the 63rd Primetime Emmys on Sunday night. It was The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Hah! Just kidding! Scared you though, right? He wasn’t even nominated. Wonder why???

No, no. The nominees were: The Colbert Report, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Saturday Night Live, Conan, Real Time With Bill Maher, and The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. And of course the winner was The Daily Show.

Not only did the team win “Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Series,” they also won “Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Series” while being nominated for “Outstanding Directing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Series, ” and “Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Series.”

The Daily Show’s producers and writers were very familiar with the pomp and circumstance of the occasion. In his acceptance speech accompanied by the TDS ensemble of creators, Jon Stewart made sure that he paid tribute to Jimmy Fallon with a reference to Simba and The Lion King and a special salute to Fallon’s BFF, er BEF for six months, Stephen Colbert saying:

I have just ridiculous respect for the other people that are in the category and for Stephen Colbert who I watch on a nightly basis and just can’t even believe that that guy renders his character in real time and how just exquisite I think that show is. It’s amazing to me.

But Stewart didn’t stop there.

And also I want to thank, Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island guys. My kids are out here this time, Nate and Maggie, seven and five, and I have a lot of explaining to do to them. I really hope they’re on Club Penguin right now. Go to bed guys.

If you were like Nate and Maggie playing on ClubPenguin.com instead of watching the show, you saved yourself three hours of misery. Somehow the producers managed to make one of the funniest women in TV, Jane Lynch, completely unfunny while throwing her into lame skits about … about … hell if I know…

But Stewart is referring to one of the funniest moments in the show when he mentions Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island guys and we do need to share it with you. Check out the video below titled “Lonely Island Emmy Awards Performance” but we warn you this is NSFW unless you’re a prostitute … or a politician.
