President Obama and the White House have finally released Obama’s long form birth certificate, in response to ridiculous rumors that he was not born in the US. Obama had previously released an official “certification of live birth” showing he was born in Hawaii. But after a recent set of publicity suck fests by potential presidential contender Donald Trump, an upswing of birtherism has caused too many Americans to lose their minds. Therefore, the White House felt it was time to hopefully put this thing to rest. They had to get a special exemption from the Hawaii Department of Health, which keeps the long-form documents confidential.
They began that process on April 22. According to FactCheck.org:
An attorney for Obama, Judith Corley, wrote to the Hawaii Department of Health on April 22, requesting “a waiver of the Department of Health’s policy, so that my client can obtain two certified copies of his original, ‘long form’ birth certificate. Waiver of the Department’s policy in this instance would allow my client to make a certified copy of his original birth certificate publicly available and would also relieve the burden currently being placed on the Department of Health by the numerous inquiries it receives from the media and others relating to my client’s birth record.” Corley also included a letter from Obama, requesting the copies.
Speaking at a news conference, the president said Hawaiian officials have confirmed the authenticity of his birth certificate.
The president said the whole controversy is a “side show” that “we do not have time for this kind of silliness.” Let’s hope we don’t have to make any more time for it.
