Fox News’ Glenn Beck’s Cartoon History of the Middle East (VIDEO)

Glenn Beck airs his cartoon version of the modern history of the Middle East prior to delving into a dialogue with his guests about how the United States needs to stand with Israel. After seemingly bragging in the cartoon that the Israelis “kicked ass” during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, he then refers to Palestinians, Egyptians, Jordanians, Saudi Arabians, etc. as “those wacky Arabs.” Ha! HA! That was funny! (sarcasm)

What’s more is that the cartoon itself was lacking in historical accuracy and thoroughness which is completely predictable.

First, Glenn Beck claims that the land now known as Palestine is actually the country of Syria (or was historically the country of Syria) which is not accurate. The area has been referred to as Syria and for a time there was a movement within the country of Syria to annex Palestine led by Fayṣal ibn Ḥusayn who on March 8, 1920, proclaimed himself the King of Syria and of Palestine. Nevertheless, Palestine was never part of nor is it now part of the country of Syria as he tries to imply by displaying the Syrian flag. If anyone could simply proclaim they’re the king or queen of some land and that makes it so, then I’m sure that Qaddafi would have already claimed he’s the queen of the United States.

Second, while he mentions the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, in which the Arab states of Egypt, Syria, Transjordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen, attacked Israel after Israel declared independence, Beck fails to mention the “civil war” that led up to the Arab-Israeli War.

Third and probably the most glaring omission in Beck’s cartoon history is his utter avoidance of the Six-Day War which was fought between June 5 and June 10, 1967 – most likely because it does not shine too nicely a light on Israel’s behavior toward Palestine. Just another of those “preemptive strikes.”

Yes, Beck is trying to condense an enormous amount of history into a two minute cartoon, but there is no excuse for historical inaccuracy or for leaving out major military events in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. He does mention something about another episode but let’s see if that comes to fruition. He is such a tease, you know.

Best Inaccuracy Observation: vysotsky on MediaMatters.org – (referring to the images of nuclear bombs exploding when Beck talks about the Zionists kicking ass) “That’s one of the smaller inaccuracies. Then there’s how the cartoon falsely portrays Beck as having only one chin…”
