Switzerland can no longer remain neutral. Unfortunately for them, Michele Bachmann is now a citizen of Switzerland. Flags were flown at half mast all over the tiny Alpine nation. According to Politico:

Bachmann (R-Minn.) recently became a citizen of Switzerland, making her eligible to run for office in the tiny European nation, according to a Swiss TV report Tuesday.

Marcus Bachmann, the congresswoman’s husband since 1978, reportedly was eligible for Swiss citizenship due to his parents’ nationality — but only registered it with the Swiss government Feb. 15. Once the process was finalized on March 19, Michele automatically became a citizen as well, according to Honegger.

And as The Daily Beast explains:

As a citizen of Switzerland, Bachmann can now partake in a healthcare system that is the envy of the world. It has transparent costs, it is consumer driven, and it provides near universal coverage. It also has an individual mandate: all Swiss citizens are required to purchase basic health insurance.

Remember this Michele Bachmann? Bachmann was asked after a speech back in 2009, “Why do you think socialism has become a dirty word in our society when such a system has worked well for European countries?”

After laughing at the man who asked the question and then challenging him to identify himself in the audience because “a lot of people want to talk” to him, Bachmann finally answered:

If you compare the Soviet Union’s economy to the United States economy – you look at the progress, you look at the innovation, you look at the developments, you look at the continual increase in the standard of living, I think I would choose the economy that’s been more in line with free markets than socialism.

Sure. If you look at the Soviet Union which of course is nonexistent except in Bachmann’s head, the US economy is surely preferable. And of course socialism and capitalism don’t exist/succeed anywhere in the world, right?

Bachmann apparently is a fan of socialism as long as the country’s main commodity is chocolate and they manufacture clever concealed weaponry. Because, you know how women get that time of the month. At least I do and poor Michele, judging from those eyes, seems to be having some irregular cycles.

That’s the only explanation I can come up with for why Michele Obamacare-Will-Send-Us-All-To-The-Ninth-Circle-of-Hell Bachmann has become a citizen of a country with near universal health care.
